Spirit Lake carries the heaviest snow load of any town in our North Idaho network: 96 psf of ground snow load at 2,569 feet (University of Idaho, *Ground Snow Loads for Idaho — 2015*). For scale, that is nearly double Sandpoint's 56 — the town most people picture when they think of Idaho snow. Elevation and position at the north end of the Rathdrum Prairie put Spirit Lake under weather that empties before it reaches the lower valleys.
